CIVIL ENGINEER
Breen Engineering is looking for an experienced candidate to serve as a Civil Engineer in our Torrance, California office. This position would act as the lead project engineer for varied development projects.
The Civil Engineer candidate will be capable of managing their own projects, meeting schedules and deliverable dates as necessary, while also being an integral leader and project manager in the Breen Civil Department.  This position affords the candidate the opportunity to not only work on new and exciting projects, but also to expand their skills and knowledge in the realm of project pursuits, client management, and project management.

​Responsibilities
Various anticipated tasks include:
  • Engineering design including grading, utilities and horizontal control for commercial site development and street improvement projects.
  • Performing engineering calculations and analyses including but not limited to earthwork, drainage flow, storm water treatment, and sewer capacity analysis.
  • Implementation of Low Impact Development on project designs. 
  • Management of projects, as well as junior engineers, designers, drafters, and clients.
  • Construction Document preparation and specification preparation to accompany construction documents.
  • Development of Erosion Control Plans, SWPPP’s and WQMP’s. 
  • Proposal preparation and resource budgeting for projects.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited four-year university with at least five years of experience in related design work is preferred
  • A professional engineering license in Civil Engineering from the State of California is preferred, but not required.
  • A QSD/QSP qualification is similarly preferred, but not required.
  • Proficient knowledge of AutoCAD is required, while experience with AutoCAD Civil 3D is preferred.
MECHANICAL ENGINEER

Position:
MECHANICAL ENGINEER – Design heating, ventilating and air conditioning (HVAC) for residential, commercial and educational institutions in compliance with local, state and federal codes. Select the appropriate HVAC equipment, prepare the equipment, schedule, details and controls diagrams, and cost estimate. Coordinate with other disciplines (architectural, electrical, plumbing and structural) to ensure that HVAC system will perform and installed as desired. Have the HVAC design approved by building department authority having jurisdiction. Generate reports using Microsoft Word, Excel and Powerpoint. Prepare project proposal, attend site walk and do site survey, job walk and project cost estimation. Prepare the necessary project specification documents related to the HVAC design. Perform construction administration, attend construction meetings, submittal review, respond to Request for Information (RFI) and Request for Clarification (RFC). Perform periodic job walk to ensure construction is as design and provide corrections and sketches for actual field change orders. Prepare project closeout documents. Record Drawings (as built) and scanned electronic copies. Must be proficient with heating and cooling load calculation and CAD software. Req. BSC – Mechanical Engineering and five years related experience.

senior Electrical engineer/Designer
​Candidates for the Senior Electrical Engineer / Designer position should be experienced in the evaluation, design and construction of electrical systems across a broad market spectrum including educational, residential, commercial and industrial facilities. The candidate should also be well versed in building code analysis and interpretation.

Responsibilities
  • Project/client management
  • Preparing CAD/REVIT generated construction drawings and specifications
  • Conferring with engineering staff and other personnel to identify and resolve problems
  • Planning, scheduling, or coordinating construction project activities to meet deadlines; working directly with clients
  • Assist as a quality assurance/ quality control resource
  • Meeting with clients to coordinate electrical systems with other project elements
  • Managing multiple projects towards successful completion
Qualifications
  • 10+ years’ experience designing lighting and lighting control, electrical distribution, fire alarm and standby generator systems
  • Ability to identify applicable codes in project-specific jurisdictions
  • AutoCAD proficient
  • Revit experience preferred
  • P.E. license required
  • Experience with industry standard software including Microsoft products, AGi32, EnergyPro. Etc.
  • Basic knowledge of all disciplines regarding their general requirements for standard types of projects for discussions with Owners, Contractors, Code Authorities Having Jurisdiction (AHJ), and clients.
  • Reviews project deliverables
  • Ability to manage multiple projects, tasks and deadlines through completion
  • Monitors timely response for electrical RFIs and Shop Drawing reviews
  • Mentor staff (face-to-face)
  • Monitors progress of projects and client satisfaction

​Electrical Designer
  • ​Candidates for Electrical Designers should be experienced to support the design and engineering of building type projects of various scale and complexity including; Hotels, High-End Residential, Mixed-Use Multi-Family Developments, Commercial and Retail. The successful candidate will apply electrical engineering techniques, procedures, and criteria to the process and expect to constantly advance their design capabilities. Documents will be produced using AutoCAD.
 
Responsibilities
  • Assist in completing plans, specifications, and other technical drawings in an efficient and timely manner
  • Preparing CAD/Revit generated drawings and specifications intended for construction
  • Draft and assist in designing working drawings, wiring diagrams, wiring connections specification and cross-sections of underground cables, as required for instructions to installation crew
  • Planning, scheduling, or coordinating construction project activities to meet deadlines
  • Managing multiple projects towards successful completion
  • Assures that drawings and designs are in accordance with company production and design standards
Qualifications
  • Associates degree in drafting, design technology or Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering
  • 5 or more years of relevant design
  • Proficient in the use of computer for design and must understand CAD/BIM operations
  • Experience with industry standard software including Microsoft products, AGi32, EnergyPro. Etc.
  • Extensive knowledge of the principles and practices relating to appropriate discipline, including both design and construction
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, customers, vendors, and clients

PLUMBING SENIOR DESIGNER
​Candidates for the Senior Plumbing Designer position should be experienced in the evaluation, design, and construction of plumbing systems across a broad market spectrum including commercial and industrial facilities. The candidate should also be well versed in building code analysis and interpretation.

  • Lead the design and analysis of building plumbing systems
  • Perform required calculations, design and equipment selections
  • Prepare field notes, feasibility studies, cost analyses, and specifications
  • Work with a team of plumbing design professionals
  • Complete technical and investigative reports to support forensic findings and prepare materials related to presentations

Plumbing Designer
​Candidates for Plumbing Designers should be experienced to support the design and engineering of building type projects of various scale and complexity; Hotels, High-End Residential, Mixed-Use, Commercial, and Retail. The successful candidate will apply mechanical engineering techniques, procedures, and criteria to the process and expect to constantly advance their design capabilities. Documents will be produced using AutoCAD.
 
Responsibilities
  • Design and layout of engineering drawings within the Plumbing and Fire Protection specialties.
  • Preparation of complete Plumbing and Fire Protection calculations including water supply, storm drainage, and equipment sizing.
  • Design Plumbing systems including sanitary waste and vent, storm water, domestic water distribution systems and natural gas distribution systems.
  • Design, size, select, schedule, and specify basic Plumbing system components to include fixtures, specialties, and equipment.
  • Design and select fire protection systems and equipment.
  • Qualifications
  • Knowledgeable in consulting engineering and construction practices including preparation of plans, specifications, in both design/bid and design/build scenarios.
  • Knowledgeable of construction administration roles and responsibilities including submittal review, RFI responses, site visits and field reports.
  • Works to keep errors to a minimum by developing construction documents that are code compliant and constructible using standard industry practices.
  • Help to create realistic design schedules while identifying, reacting and communicating immediately to symptoms before they become larger problems.
  • Provide technical CAD and BIM production services using AutoCAD and Revit.
  • The qualified candidate will be a team member who can function independently, collaborate on a team level, manage multiple projects and assignments, and contribute to the growth of JSE.

  • Performing heating and cooling load calculations, heat transfer, pressure calculations, and equipment selections as related to building engineered systems
  • Developing system options and making recommendations for improvement
  • System’s evaluations, analysis and reporting, including energy analysis and life cycle cost analysis
  • Providing HVAC design support for engineering studies and analysis, equipment sizing/selection, code review, field investigations, and various other tasks related to the design of HVAC systems
  • Coordinating design elements with other design disciplines and Architecture
  • Working with AutoCAD in production of HVAC design drawings
  • Qualifications
  • Qualified candidates should be BSME, or equivalent
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience FE or PE, PE not required
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD is required
  • Candidate must show excellent communication skills and be eager to take on new challenges
STRUCTURAL DESIGNER/ENGINEER 
We are currently seeking motivated Structural designers/engineers to provide structural engineering design, analysis, calculation, drawings, and field survey work for new construction, alterations and renovations.

​Qualifications include B.S. in Structural/Civil Engineering, with an M.S. in Structural Engineering preferred.  5+ years of experience in structural engineering; Professional Engineering License preferred.  Strong computer skills in Excel, Word, AutoCAD, RISA, ENERCALC, RAM, etc. required.  Strong knowledge of ACI 318 Concrete Design, AISC LRFD/ASD Steel Design, NDS Wood Design, ASCE 7 Minimum Design Loads required.  The successful candidate will have excellent written and verbal communication skills and be well-organized and self-disciplined with good independent problem solving skills
CIVIL ENGINEERING DESIGNER
​Breen Engineering is looking for a skilled candidate to serve as a Civil Engineering Designer in our Torrance, California office. This position would require the candidate to act in a supporting capacity to a lead project engineer, and serve as a focal point for design on development projects.

​Responsibilities
Under the supervision of the lead project engineer, the Civil Engineering Designer will handle various aspects of engineering design, including:
  • grading, utilities and horizontal control for commercial site development and street improvement projects
  • wet utility design and profiles (storm drain, sewer and fire services)
  • storm water treatment calculations and reports for Low Impact Design and SUSMP compliance
  • ADA requirements and design
  • SWPPP reports and erosion control
  • earthwork calculations
The Civil Engineering Designer will be tasked with design of projects from the research and planning stages, through the development of design and coordination with other disciplines, into final construction documents, and eventually construction administration, including site visits and confirmation of construction performed.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited four-year university with one year of experience in related design work or similar internship experience preferred.
  • Successful completion of the Engineer In Training (EIT) exam is preferred, but not required. 
  • Experience with AutoCAD is highly preferred, however, those with minimal or no experience may be considered.
ASSISTANT CAD MANAGER​
Breen Engineering is looking for an assistant CAD Manager to aid in the production of quality drawings. This position will include drafting, reviewing drawings and programming as necessary to accomplish this goal.​

​Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
  • Checking drawings against current CAD Standards
  • Training staff in regards to CAD Standards, using new tools that are developed
  • Drafting as needed

Qualifications
